That sucks that they tried to do that to her... our door is always open for our kiddos to come and sleep with us, but we have a limit on it. They are 10, 5 and 4 and our youngest still crawls in bed and sleeps with us (let me rephrase that...) my youngest still crawls in the bed and tries to kick me out of it, LOL! We only have a queen size and so I (more than daddy) put the hammer down on all sleeping in the bed with us... It's funny how much I do like sleep, when I am deprived of it for long stints at a time :-) Plus I don't think our girls know what it means to share a bed with us because we (my husband and I) tend to end up on the edge of the bed, with sore backs, no sleep and the kids are girls are quite content. At some point I think they will no longer think it's cool...

I love that! My baby is just that, a baby. And although she's 5 it doesn't mean she doesn't need mom or comfort.

I agree with you so very much. Thank you for posting this. My boys, 4 and 2 have been in our bed since birth. No need to change a thing. They will be independent soon enough.

Annie, you seem to be such a great person - kudos for speaking out in this matter! I totally agree with you. I dare even say that giving children a safe harbor at night supports them in finding their own way and becoming self-confident and self-aware. Letting them decide when they feel "grown up" enough to spend their nights alone is so important! Co-sleeping, they can "refuel" in emotional security and are thus most certainly able to cope with everyday life much better. I believe it gives them so much more freedom to develop their little personalities.

I'm dead certain that our children won't bring their first girl-/boyfriend to co-sleep with our family, so: What about it? ;)

We are a co-sleeping family!!!!! :) I have heard many negative comments about it, but to be honest I love having my 18 month old son curled up between my husband and I. If he tells me one day that he wants to sleep in his own bed, then he can, but for right now he sleeps with us. Speaking of right now, both my boys are all snuggled up in our king sized bed. :)

What a wonderful post! I've been laying here tonight going through many of your posts having just found you this evening! I love how reading a blog can make you feel as if you've reconnected with a lost friend.

Now, down to the snuggly stuff. I am a grandmother now, and desperately miss the days of my children growing up. I loved snuggling to sleep with each of them, and thankfully, even now if I am having a physically challenging day and need to rest, one of them will show up to visit and curl up on the bed with me for a good snuggle.

Our oldest daughter has three beautiful children ages 7 down to 1 1/2 and each night finds them all piled on or around her. :) They live here with us, so grandma and grandpa get lots of snuggle time as well, but it is precious to see how much the kids long to be close to their Mama.

For every negative comment you or your beautiful children may hear, there are so many more positive ones out there! So far there are three right here. :)

TOTALLY agree Annie! A baby is sharing your body for the length of it's existence, and then it's pulled from it's snuggly warm safe place and shoved into a cot on it's own while millions of new sensations bombard it's body... how scary! And if a child needs cuddles at ANY time, no matter WHAT the age, we should stop out "normal life" provide that loving safe place for them so that the cuddles and love become apart of their "normal life"

Save the world through love and cuddles is what I say!
